Mayor of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality – Muhittin Böcek
Muhittin Böcek, Mayor of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, was born in 1962 in the Konyaaltı district of Antalya. He completed his primary, secondary, and high school education in Antalya, and pursued higher education in the fields of Public Relations and Economics. He crowned his 25 years of political experience by earning a master’s degree in Public Administration and Political Science. After completing his military service at Samsun Military Hospital, Muhittin Böcek worked in sectors such as agriculture, transportation, and tourism. He became actively involved in politics from a young age and served as the Central District Chairman of the Motherland Party (ANAP) between 1994 and 1999. In the elections held on April 18, 1999, he ran as the ANAP candidate for Mayor of Konyaaltı and was elected with 27% of the vote. During his first 5-year term, he led significant modernization efforts in the district. In the March 28, 2004 local elections, he was re-elected as the Republican People’s Party (CHP) candidate with over 50% of the vote, beginning his second term. Following his successful tenure, he was re-elected again in the 2009 elections with 60% of the vote. In the March 30, 2014 elections, he became the first mayor to win four consecutive terms in central Antalya. Throughout his political career, Muhittin Böcek served as the President of the Mediterranean Municipalities Union for four consecutive terms. He has also held leadership roles in organizations such as the Western Antalya Tourism Protection and Development Infrastructure Service Union (BATAB), Konyaaltı Tourism Education and Culture Foundation (KONTEV), and the Konyaaltı City Council. After a successful 20-year political career, he ran in the 2019 local elections as the CHP candidate for Antalya and was elected Mayor of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality with 50.62% of the vote. In the local elections held on March 31, 2024, he was re-elected with 48.71% of the vote. On May 28, 2024, he was once again elected President of the Mediterranean Municipalities Union, a position he had previously held for four terms. On July 13, 2024, during the Extraordinary General Assembly Meeting of the International Cittaslow Association held in Antalya, he was elected as the Cittaslow Türkiye Coordinator. Known for his innovative management approach and his love for people and nature, Muhittin Böcek has earned public appreciation through projects and services aimed at all segments of society.
